Rep. Petri Seeks Entries in Congressional Art Competition

Congressman Tom Petri has extended an invitation to all high schools in the Sixth Congressional District to participate in the 26th Annual Congressional Art Competition for high school students, called An Artistic Discovery.

Petri is seeking artwork submissions from high school students throughout the ten-county area of the Sixth District for the competition, which will culminate in an exhibit, reception and awards ceremony to be held Saturday, May 5 at the University of Wisconsin-Fond du Lac Student Commons.

Each school may select up to three student entries to submit, one piece of art per student. Judging will be done by a panel of area artists. Submissions should be delivered to Petri's Fond du Lac office at 490 West Rolling Meadows Drive by Tuesday, May 1.

The Congressional Art Competition, voluntarily sponsored by Members of Congress through competitions held in their congressional districts, affords creative high school students the opportunity to showcase their talents in Washington, D.C. The first-place artwork chosen in each congressional district will be sent to Washington to be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year. The winning artist will be invited to a reception in Washington, D.C. on June 28 and in addition will receive scholarship opportunities from the Savannah College of Art & Design.

"I know there are many talented high school artists in our district, and I would be honored to have their work submitted for this competition," Petri said.

Second and third place winners in the Sixth District contest will have their artwork displayed in Petri's Washington, D.C. and Fond du Lac district offices, respectively.

Artwork entered in the competition must be two-dimensional. Artwork categories include paintings, drawings, collage, prints, mixed media, computer generated art and photography. All non-canvas works must be matted, but need not be framed.
