Oshkosh Student Offered Appointment
to U.S. Military Academy
WASHINGTON -- Congressman Tom Petri reports that Oshkosh West High School senior Bethany A. Lerch has been offered an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, NY.
"I congratulate Ms. Lerch, and want to remind other nominees to the various academies that additional appointments may be offered," said Petri.
"Bethany received a 2004 Congress-Bundestag scholarship to spend a school year in
Germany. She was one of the youngest participants, she didn't speak German and she had to
prove herself ready to meet considerable challenges," said Petri. "Her brother, Andy Lerch,
graduated from West Point last May, so Bethany must be pretty well informed about what to
expect. I'm confident she can handle it."
