Public Meeting to Be Held On Proposed Rail Abandonment

WASHINGTON -- The federal government's Surface Transportation Board has scheduled a meeting to hear citizens' concerns about an application filed by Wisconsin Central Ltd. for permission to abandon the Plymouth Line - 37 miles of railroad tracks between Saukville and Kiel, Congressman Tom Petri reports. Petri sent a letter to the Board last month requesting that such a meeting be held to provide an opportunity to learn about the impact on shippers in the area if the application were approved.

The public meeting will be held in the theater of the Random Lake High School, located at 605 Random Lake Road in Random Lake on Aug. 13 at 9 a.m.

"The meeting will continue until everyone has had the opportunity to speak," said Petri. "Anybody who wants to comment can sign up on a list that will be available at the meeting. Anybody wishing to use audiovisual equipment must advise the Board in advance by calling Joseph H. Dettmar at (202) 565-1609. I hope everybody with concerns about the proposed abandonment will take advantage of this opportunity to be heard."
