WASHINGTON - The Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW), a taxpayer advocacy group, has named Rep. Tom Petri a "Taxpayer Hero" for his votes during the 2007 legislative session in the U.S. House.
"Being named a Taxpayer Hero means that Rep. Petri is one of the small number of U.S. Representatives who fight against government waste and who try to leave as much money as possible in the pockets of those who earn it. CCAGW is happy to commend Rep. Petri both for opposing wasteful spending and for supporting tax cuts," said CCAGW President Thomas A. Schatz.
CCAGW rated 100 key votes during the first session of the 110th Congress. Petri was found to have voted in support of taxpayers 91 percent of the time. The entire House of Representatives averaged 30 percent.
"People work hard for their money, and Congress needs to respect that fact and let them keep as much of their earnings as possible. Taxpayers are right to demand that taxes be as low as possible and as efficiently used as possible," Petri said.
