Oxford Fire Department Wins Grant

Congressman Tom Petri reports that the Oxford Fire Department will receive a $38,710 grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS).  The funds will be used to purchase a new air compressor to fill air bottles for breathing equipment used to avoid hazardous fumes. 

"It's a safety issue.  Our old compressor only filled the bottles about 85 percent.  The air was running out earlier than it needed to," said Fire Department Captain Karl Spath.

"Our firefighters deserve appropriate equipment both to fight fires and to protect their health," said Petri.  "Many small departments need extra help to achieve adequate standards.  I want to congratulate the Oxford Fire Department for succeeding with its grant application to this highly competitive program."
