WASHINGTON - President George W. Bush and the U.S. Department of Commerce have awarded Johnsonville Sausage LLC of Sheboygan Falls the President's "E" Award for Export Excellence.
"The 'E' Award is the highest honor the federal government can give to an American exporting company, and I'm pleased - but not surprised - that it has been earned by one of our local companies," said Rep. Tom Petri, who met with President Bush, Johnsonville Sausage's President Bill Morgan, and the company's Vice President of Sales Tom Danneker on May 20 to celebrate the award.
"This award recognizes U.S. firms for their competitive achievements in world markets and their part in increasing U.S. exports abroad. American exports are growing but we need to do more, and Johnsonville Sausage is helping to show the way. I really like the idea that the world is having the opportunity to enjoy authentic Wisconsin brats," said Petri.
Johnsonville Sausage is a national brand of brats, Italian sausage, smoked-cooked links and breakfast sausage links. The company's export sales increased 67 percent between 2004 and 2007, according to the Commerce Department.
