Cleveland Fire Department Wins Grant

Congressman Tom Petri reports that the Cleveland Fire Department will receive a $35,530 grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS).  The funds will be used to purchase fire hoses and nozzles.

"I have firefighters that are younger than the hoses we are using now," said Fire Chief Ron Zastrow, who said the communities the department serves have been unable to budget enough money for the department, even though it needs to replace equipment purchased in the 1970s.  "We would never be able to do that without these grants," he said.

"Many small departments need extra help to achieve adequate standards," said Rep. Petri.  "I want to congratulate the Cleveland Fire Department for succeeding with its grant application to this highly competitive program."
