WASHINGTON - The House of Representatives approved a budget blueprint Thursday intended to lay the groundwork for President Obama's priorities. Rep. Tom Petri opposed the proposal, instead supporting alternative budget resolutions designed to spend less.
Rep. Petri commented:
"I voted against the budget resolution the House passed. The Obama budget provides for, basically, unsustainable deficits - well over five percent of our total national GNP at the end of a ten year period, a huge increase in the federal debt. And I believe it would lead to inflation and a lower standard of living if it were actually to be followed over the next 10 years.
"So I voted in favor of budget versions that provided for cutting increases in government, getting our deficit under control, bringing it down to the three percent or less ratio that international financial experts tell us we have to hit if we are going to keep the dollar strong."
