Rep. Tom Petri will be the lead Republican Wednesday at a hearing featuring John Solberg, Executive Director of Rawhide Boys Ranch in New London, WI.
The hearing, entitled "Reforming the Juvenile Justice System to Improve Children's Lives and Public Safety," will be held by the House Education and Labor Committee April 21 at 10 a.m. in room 2175 of the Rayburn House Office Building.
The purpose of the hearing is to address the potential goals for the reauthorization of the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act. JJDPA assists states and local governments in their efforts to reduce juvenile crime through the funding of prevention programs and activities.
Petri will introduce Solberg, who has been with Rawhide Boys Ranch since 2000. Rawhide is a 24 hour intensive residential care center licensed by the state of Wisconsin to treat court-referred and at-risk youth 12 to 21 years of age.
Founded by John and Jan Gillispie and legendary Green Bay Packers quarterback Bart Starr and his wife Cherry in 1965, Rawhide is well respected for achieving positive outcomes in the lives of delinquent youth through innovative programs in residential care and treatment, group home, treatment foster care, work experience and academics.
Solberg is a past board member of the Wisconsin Association of Family and Children's Agencies and is a past member of the Alliance for Children and Families Public Policy Committee. He was recently appointed by Gov. Jim Doyle to an 11 member statewide committee to examine Wisconsin's juvenile justice institutions and to explore how best to serve juveniles in the future.
