Rep. Tom Petri reports that the U.S. Commerce Department's Economic Development Administration has awarded a $437,899 grant to the Fond du Lac County Economic Development Corporation and the Center for Enterprise Development, Inc.
This EDA investment funds a three-year implementation of an "economic gardening" program in Fond du Lac County and the city of Waupun in Dodge County, an area severely affected by the Midwest floods of 2008. This business assistance program will provide research and marketing tools to aid in the recovery of businesses and nonprofit organizations, creating 500 jobs and leveraging $16 million in private capital investment.
“We had identified 'economic gardening' as a significant opportunity for Fond du Lac County area businesses as they look at strategic growth opportunities, so we are thrilled that we will be able to offer this program,” said Brenda Hicks-Sorensen, president of Fond du Lac County Economic Development Corporation and the Center for Enterprise Development.
Petri said, "I sent a letter of support for this grant and my office was in regular contact with officials about it, so I am especially pleased to see that we are getting the support we requested. We certainly need the jobs and the development."
