Sixth District Congressman Tom Petri will host a reception and awards ceremony on Saturday, April 17, for students participating in the "Artistic Discovery" Congressional Art competition for high school students.
The event will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Windover Center for the Arts at 51 Sheboygan Street in Fond du Lac, with an awards ceremony scheduled for 3 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
"I enjoy seeing the artwork, helping it to get wider exposure, and meeting the artists," said Petri. "This year, we have pieces from students in Fond du Lac, Oshkosh, Campbellsport, Wautoma, Kiel, the Watertown area and more. I'm pleased to be part of the national congressional effort to showcase high school art, and I invite everybody to come see what we have to offer."
About 41 students from 11 high schools in the 6th District have submitted artwork for the competition. The first-place work, selected by two judges from the arts community, will be sent to Washington, D.C. to be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year, along with winning artwork from other congressional districts throughout the country.
The Congressional Art Competition exhibit will be available for public viewing at the Windover until Saturday, April 23.
