Homeless Assistance Gets Boost Along Lakeshore

WASHINGTON -- Congressmen Tom Petri and Mark Green report that Lakeshore CAP, Inc./Project HOPE will receive a $117,663 from the U.S. Department for Housing and Urban Development for homeless assistance services in Manitowoc, Sheboygan, Kewaunee and Door counties.

"This is a continuation of a grant first provided in 1999," said Petri. "The funds are used to help homeless people increase their incomes and get into stable housing. This grant comes during the ideal season while reminding us of the needs of the less fortunate throughout the year."

"Helping folks get back on their feet is good for them, good for their families and good for the taxpayers," Green said. "With small investments like these, we can provide people both hope and a hand-up to a better life -- rather than a future of homelessness, poverty and permanent reliance on public assistance."
