About the 22nd District PDF Print E-mail

New Yorks' wonderfully scenic 22nd Congressional District includes all or part of eight counties and ranges from the Hudson River, through the Catskills, across the Southern Tier and up to the Finger Lakes. Its cities include Binghamton, Ithaca, Middletown, Kingston, Newburgh and Poughkeepsie.

The 22nd District is home to the artists' enclave of Woodstock as well as to Bethel, the site of the misnamed Woodstock Music Festival of 1969. It hosts several colleges, including Cornell University and state universities in Binghamton and New Paltz. Roscoe, in the center of the district, is known as Trout Town USA and is inundated by fishermen each year on the opening day of trout season. Every August some 80,000 people visit Binghamton for Spiedie Fest, a four-day festival named for the marinated and grilled meat sandwich introduced to the area in the 1920s. Kingston was the first capital of New York State and is the final resting place of George Clinton, who served as state governor and as vice president under Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. Newburgh is home to George Washington's Headquarters, the first publicly operated historic site in the United States.

These are but a few of the things that make the 22nd Congressional District unique. It's a great place to live, work and visit.
