Pueblos in Rep. Luján’s District Receive Funding for Air Quality Management, Domestic Violence Prevention PDF Print E-mail
WASHINGTON - On Monday, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Justice's Office of Violence Against Women both awarded grants to the Eight Northern Pueblo Council in Congressman Ben Ray Luján's district.

The $110,022 EPA grant will provide members of the Eight Northern Pueblo Council with green technology training and, conduct research on baseline air pollution levels at two of the Council's member Pueblos. After the benchmark test is completed, the EPA and the pueblos will assess what additional measures need to be taken.

The grant from the Office of Violence Against Women will provide transitional housing assistance for people who have experienced domestic or dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, or that are homeless and cannot receive other housing assistance. It will also work with people who do not have access to emergency shelters or crisis intervention services. The $250,000 grant will work with the tribal leaders, law enforcement officials, and the members of the community.
