The injunction strikes the final blow against the Defund ACORN Act, which unconstitutionally singled out ACORN for punishment by Congress.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), Chair of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, chaired a hearing entitled “Protecting the American Dream: A Look into the Fair Housing Act” and announced new legislation to expand fair housing protections. The hearing examined Fair Housing Act education, investigation and enforcement, both past and present, particularly in the context of the current housing crisis. Recent reports and court settlements have illustrated ongoing problems with housing discrimination, particularly for people of color, the LGBT community, and the disability community. In response, Nadler will push for greater enforcement of the law, and has introduced, along with Judiciary Chairman John Conyers, H.R. 4820 in order to amend the Act to additionally prohibit housing discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.

NEW YORK, NY – Today, Congressman Jerrold Nadler (NY-08), the representative of Lower Manhattan and the senior Northeastern member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, announced $156 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding for the Fulton Street Transit Center in Manhattan. These federal funds, which Nadler supported, will be used for construction and improvements of the new Downtown transit hub. Improvements will focus on connections between stations, passageways, platforms, systems, and restoration of the historic Corbin building.

U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, Congressman Jerry Nadler, and Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney announced today that the United States Department of Transportation will allocate over $274 million under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) for the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) East Side Access Project and the Second Avenue Subway Project. The East Side Access Project will create a rail link from the Long Island Railroad via the 63rd Street Tunnel to Grand Central Station that will help tens of thousands of Nassau, Suffolk and Queens commuters save hours on their daily commutes. The Second Avenue Subway Project will help to ease congestion on the Lexington Avenue line, the most crowded subway line in the nation.
