Education

Congressman Rogers reads a book to a classroom.Though Congress has yet to consider the reauthorization of the No Child Left Behind law, I have been talking to parent, teachers, and principals across East Alabama on ways to improve our education system. While they believe we should maintain rigorous standards, they are considered about not placing one size fits all requirements on schools, more teacher flexibility, and improved means for special needs students. Once this debate starts in Congress, I will advocate your concerns.

Congress has made important improvements to allow more folks to go to college. last Congress, I supported the passage of H.R. 4137, the Higher Education Opportunity Act, which amongst other things reauthorized the Higher Education Act, increased Pell grants, created more awareness and available information relating to University tuition increases, and provided stronger regulation preventing collusion between Universities and credit providers.

A high quality education, of course, is the key to success for all our young people. I hope Congress continues to do its part to help strengthen our education system for all Alabamians.
