Dingell asks FCC for Answers

Washington, DC - Yesterday, Congressman John D. Dingell (D-MI15) sent a letter to Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Julius Genachowski requesting that he respond to Dingell’s May 27, 2010, letter concerning the FCC’s announcement about proceedings to classify broadband Internet access services as telecommunications services.

“I find it wholly frustrating that Chairman Genachowski, after nearly two months, still has not responded to my questions about the classification of broadband Internet access services,” said Dingell.  “I have serious concerns about the FCC’s proposed course of action.  There is intense interest in the Congress about this, and I feel Chairman Genachowski’s responses to my questions would be invaluable in informing the debate on the matter.”

Added Dingell, “I urge the FCC to continue working with the Congress and forebear from further proceedings on reclassification until such time as Congress decides an appropriate course of action.”

Dingell’s May 27, 2010, letter to Chairman Genachowski included five questions pertaining to the rationale for the FCC’s May 6, 2010, announcement that it would commence a proceeding to classify broadband Internet access services as a telecommunications service subject to Title II of the Communications Act of 1934.  Dingell’s July 20, 2010, letter implores Chairman Genachowski to respond to those questions.  Both letters are attached to this release.
