Nadler: U.S. Justice System Convicts Terrorist – Faces 20 Years to Life PDF Print
Ahmed Ghailani Verdict Shows that our Legal System Works
Thursday, 18 November 2010
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), Chair of the House Judiciary Subcommittee and the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, issued the following statement in response to the jury verdict in the Ahmed Ghailani terror trial case:

“This trial shows that our legal system works.  Despite the fact that misconduct by CIA interrogators during the Bush Administration resulted in the mandatory exclusion of key evidence against him, Ahmed Ghailani was convicted in open court and will be imprisoned for 20 years to life.  Despite the negative predictions by some, the trial was effective and transparent, with no security problems in the heart of Manhattan.  The world has seen that the American criminal justice system is both fair and relentless, just as it has been shown to be hundreds of times before, when terrorists were tried and convicted under both the Bush and Obama Administrations.  I urge that we continue to use our criminal justice system to try and convict terrorists in Guantanamo and elsewhere.”
