Southeast Michigan Jobs Fair

Hello, this is Congressman John Dingell. On September 3rd I hosted the Southeast Michigan Rehiring, Retraining, and Relief Fair that you can see here. The purpose of this event was to bring together the people from across the 15th Congressional District and beyond who are facing the greatest difficulty in this recession with the companies, agencies, and schools able to help them most.

In that endeavor, the Fair was a great success! Over 1000 people came through the doors of the Romulus Athletic Center to meet with nearly 80 organizations from across the region. As they were leaving, hundreds of participants indicated that they will be following up with leads for new jobs and hundreds more found assistance programs to help get their families through these especially hard times.

I believe that the people of the Southeast Michigan are the hardest, most capable workers anywhere in the world; and I am not alone in thinking so. The employers at the event were universally impressed with the quality of candidates that came to the Fair and noted that they would be following up with many of those they spoke to over the course of the event.

I get calls from my constituents every day looking for help to find a job. Each call represents a family in great need of help and the Rehiring, Retraining, and Relief Fair was one effort to directly answer as many of those calls as possible. I know that it is not enough, though, and I will continue to work for the people of the 15th District to provide more opportunities to find a good job and economic security for their families. If you would like to find more information on what I am doing to assist the families of the 15th or would like more information on the organizations that participated in the fair please visit my website for a copy of the Displaced Workers Guidebook as well as other helpful resources.  Thank you.
