Dingell Praises USTR’s Decision to Investigate China

Washington, DC
 – Congressman John D. Dingell (D-MI15) applauded U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk’s decision to investigate China and whether or not it violated the rules of the World Trade Organization.  This after a complaint by the United Steelworkers accusing the Chinese of “protection and predatory practices” that amount to discrimination against foreign competitors, including illegal subsidies of its clean-energy industries.

“The Obama Administration did the right thing today.  For too long, China has gotten away with questionable trade practices and today’s announcement from Trade Representative Kirk that the U.S. is investigating China for unfair trade practices that benefit its green technology sector is welcome news for American workers, manufacturers and entrepreneurs.  The U.S. will no longer put up with trade policies that hurt our people.”

In September, Congressmen Dingell joined Ways and Means Chairman, Sander Levin (D-MI12), and 179 other members in sending a letter to President Obama in support of the US Steelworkers Section 301 petition and urging the Administration to mobilize its resources to bring China’s predatory green technology policies to an end.
