Center For Translational Injury Research – CeTIR

The University Of Texas Health Science Center - Houston

6410 Fannin, Suite 1100

Houston, TX, 77030

$11,000,000

The purpose of this project will be to clinically validate cutting-edge medical technologies that have the potential to improve the diagnosis and/or treatment of trauma patients, both civilian and military.  Focused on an “ABCD” approach, whereby an injured patient’s Airway (with cervical spine control), Breathing capacity, and Circulation/hemorrhage control systematically become prioritized since these three have the highest likelihood to lead to death, this project will expand traditional trauma care to include Data, Devices, and Diagnostics in order to provide improved capabilities of reducing mortalities and improving outcomes.  To accomplish this, funding for this project will support the pre-clinical development and clinical validation of next-generation technologies ranging from advanced resuscitation strategies, novel cell-based therapies for tissue/organ regeneration, smart informatics platforms for “decision assist”, and improved monitoring technology platforms for management of trauma patients.  Because the Level I trauma center is one of only two that serves the Texas Gulf Coast region and the only one with a full-service aeromedical support system, the vast majority of trauma patients within the 29th Congressional District will benefit from new medical technologies developed and clinically validated through this project.
