Veterans

Veterans Day Parade, Dallas, Texas

As the son, grandson, and brother of veterans, I deeply appreciate the brave men and women who have sacrificed to make our country and the world a better, safer place to live. We owe all our Armed Services personnel a debt of gratitude for their service and dedication to our nation.

One my top priorities is ensuring that our nation’s military service veterans receive the benefits and care that they need. The disability claims backlog at the VA is one of the most critical challenges facing veterans today.Congress must work with the VA to ensure that comprehensive steps are being taken to improve the delivery of care so that veterans are getting the care they need, when they need it.

Our nation is facing an impending fiscal disaster, which, if left unaddressed, will also threaten our ability to honor our commitments to veterans. We need to get this country off the path to bankruptcy to ensure that we are able to fulfill our obligations to those who have served this great country with distinction.

  • I have consistently worked to ensure that our nation’s veterans have access to the care and resources that they need.  I have supported the Veterans Health Care Budget Reform and Transparency Act of 2009, which authorizes advanced appropriations for veterans’ health care.  This legislation was signed into law by President Obama on October 22, 2009.
