Detroit, MI — Congresswoman Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick (MI-13), in cooperation with Under Secretary of the Army Dr. Joseph W. Westphal, will honor Michigan veterans and Veteran Service Organizations on Monday, June 21, from 10:00-11:00 am. The ceremony, which is open to the public, will be held in the Tuskegee Airman Hangar Bay at the Coleman A. Young International Airport (formerly Detroit City Airport). The airport is located at 11499 Conner Avenue in Detroit.

“I am pleased to join Under Secretary Westphal in celebrating veterans and recognizing Veteran Service Organizations,” said Congresswoman Kilpatrick, a Member of the Appropriations’ Defense Subcommittee. “I am proud of these groups’ efforts to ensure that our veterans and their families have access to the resources they need. I applaud them for the work they do to make sure America honors its promises to our nation’s heroes for their service and sacrifice.”

Congresswoman Kilpatrick and Under Secretary Westphal will present representatives from each organization with a U.S. flag flown over the U.S. Capitol in honor of their service to Michigan’s veterans. Groups will be recognized for assisting Michigan’s veterans with compassion, competence, and commitment and ensuring that veterans and their families receive the benefits they need and deserve.
