Detroit, MI — Congresswoman
Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick (13th District, Michigan) earned an “A+” on
the Drum Major Institute for Public Policy’s (DMI) Middle Class
Congressional Scorecard, which was released yesterday. She was
recognized by DMI for her commitment to championing middle class
issues, including the minimum wage, health care, college affordability,
and energy independence.
“I
am proud to receive this rating from the Drum Major Institute for
Public Policy, an organization dedicated to educating lawmakers about
issues related to economic fairness,” said Congresswoman Kilpatrick.
“Families in Michigan’s 13th District, throughout the state of
Michigan, and across America are struggling to make ends meet. They
want and need access to quality health care, higher education, good
jobs, and fair wages. I am committed to improving their quality of
life. I will continue working to ensure that America’s families receive
the support and services they deserve.”
Representatives
were graded on their votes on key legislation affecting the middle
class. According to DMI, “One Representative who demonstrated a sincere
desire to strengthen and expand America’s middle class and the votes to
prove it, was Rep. Carolyn Kilpatrick.”
When
asked about the most important function of the annual DMI middle-class
scorecard, Executive Director Andrea Batista Schlesinger said,
“Accountability. Members of Congress cannot tell the public they
support the middle class but then cast votes against them. Thanks to
TheMiddleClass.org, every American has access to their Senators’ and
Representative’s voting records on the most important middle-class
legislation. Without question, those who kept their word, like Rep.
Carolyn Kilpatrick, deserve every accolade they receive.”
The
Drum Major Institute for Public Policy is a non-partisan, non-profit
organization widely recognized as America’s middle-class think tank.
From releasing nationally recognized studies of the middle class to
showcasing progressive policies that have worked to advance social and
economic justice, DMI has been on the leading edge of the public policy
