Congresswoman Kilpatrick Hosts a Congressional Conversation on Breast Cancer 7/12/2010
Congresswoman Kilpatrick hosted "Believe...Hope...Dream: A Congressional Conversation about Breast Cancer" at the Wayne State University School of Medicine. Speakers, including Ms. Maureen Meldrum, Chair of the Susan G. Komen Detroit Race for a Cure; Dr. Gregory Auner, Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, and Materials Science at Wayne State University; and Dr. Wei-Zen Wei, Associate Center Director for Basic Research at Karmanos Cancer Institute, discussed efforts to raise awareness, the impact of technology on early detection of breast cancer, and advances in breast cancer research. Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-20) discussed her own battle with breast cancer, legislation aimed at educating the community and emphasizing early detection, and the impact of the new health care reform law on breast cancer patients. Congresswoman Kilpatrick pledged to continue working to support efforts aimed at improving the quality of life for breast cancer patients and their families and to create a future free of breast cancer.
