Congresswoman Kilpatrick Issues Statement on the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Announcement of the Woodward Light Rail Project

“Today U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood announced a partnership with the federal government and the Detroit Department of Transportation for the nine-mile rail project down Woodward Avenue,” said Congresswoman Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick (MI-13). “I am pleased to have been a longtime supporter of rail transportation in our region. The announcement includes over $6 million that I appropriated for the project.

“The Woodward Light Rail Project is an example of the type of public-private partnerships we need to rebuild our cities, our communities, and our country. This initiative will create jobs, stimulate our community, provide economic development opportunities, and connect people to health care, housing, education, and entertainment. We have the opportunity to connect Detroit and the region to other cities across our state from Chicago on our west through the state of New York. I am excited about continuing to work with federal, state, and local officials and business and community leaders to build our high-speed transportation system.”
