Financial Services

H.R. 10, Financial Services Competition Act of 1997 – Amendment that establishes uniform ethics course requirements for all licensed insurance producers in conjunction with continuing education requirements. Establishes uniform criteria to ensure that an insurance product, including an annuity contract, sold to a consumer is suitable and appropriate based on financial information disclosed by the consumer. Establishes an Advisory Council on Community Revitalization to examine the impact of H.R. 10 on Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) and enhance access to capital, credit, and insurance for all citizens and communities. H.R. 1776, American Homeownership and Economic Opportunity Act – Amendment that prevents communities from using federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds to acquire property owned by a church without the expressed consent of the church’s governing body. Transportation/Infrastructure

H.R. 4733, Fiscal Year 2001 Energy and Water Appropriations Act – Amendment that gives the President authority to draw down strategic oil reserves in case of oil emergencies. (Full Committee Amendment)

H.R. 3550, Highway Transportation Authorization Bill – Amendment that requires the use of U.S. iron for transportation construction projects. Also requires that 60% of the funds spent to purchase manufactured products go toward products of U.S. origin. Labor costs associated with onsite construction, installation, and final assembly would not be included in calculating the costs. In the cast of manufactured products, at least 60% of the components would need to be of U.S. origin, and final assembly would need to occur in the U.S. (Congressional Record, April 2, 2004, p.
