Page Program

Pages are high school juniors who serve as support staff in the House of Representatives. Pages learn about the legislative process, participate in the day-to-day operations of the House and attend classes at the House Page School during the school year.

There are currently 72 house page positions, 48 for the majority party and 24 for the minority party. There are four page sessions per year, fall semester, spring semester, and two summer sessions. Pages must be sponsored by a Member of Congress and will be interviewed by the House Page Board. Because of the limited size of the page program, I am not always able to nominate a student page. Please contact my office to determine whether or not I am currently able to nominate a page.

If you are interested in becoming a page or have questions regarding the Page program, please contact my office via phone (202) 225-2605 or e-mail Ben Byers, ben.byers@mail.house.gov.

Requirements

Pages must be at least sixteen years of age, have high school junior standing, and a 3.0 GPA for non-elective coursework. Students who have recently completed their sophomore or junior year of high school are also eligible to apply for summer page sessions. Students must also provide:

  • Social Security Number
  • Parental Consent Form
  • Official Transcript of High School Grades
  • Written Essay
  • Resume of Extracurricular Activities
  • Three (3) Letters of Recommendation, one of which must come from a current teacher

More information can be found on the official House of Representatives Page Website.

United States Service Academies

Each year my office receives numerous inquiries concerning nominations to the United States Service Academies. I am pleased to provide the following information for constituents who may be interested in a nomination:

The Nomination Process

Members of the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate may nominate applicants who meet the eligibility requirements established by law.

Members of the House of Representatives may nominate only those applicants who reside in their congressional districts. A Congressional nomination is not needed for admission to the US Coast Guard Academy - please contact that academy directly.

To apply for a nomination from my office, please submit the following information:

  • An application, which can be requested by calling 425-252-3188 or downloaded here
  • A one-to-two page essay explaining why you want to attend an Academy;
  • Two letters of recommendation, one of which must be from your high school;
  • A sealed copy of your high school transcript; and
  • Your SAT or ACT scores (our identification number with the Educational Testing Service for the SAT test is 4775; for the ACT test, 7739).

The deadline for submission of materials to my office is November 5, 2010 at 4:30 pm. All materials should be sent to:

U.S. Congressman Rick Larsen
Attn: Service Academy Nominations
2930 Wetmore Avenue, Suite 9F
Everett, WA 98201

Interviews by an Academy Selection Board will be held in early to mid December. The Board is comprised of former military personnel and other leading citizens from around our district. This committee is charged with evaluating each application, interviewing candidates and forwarding its final recommendations to Congressman Larsen.
