Armed Services Committee

I have served on the House Armed Services Committee (HASC) since I was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2000. HASC has oversight of the Department of Defense (DOD) and is tasked with providing our women and men in the military the resources they need to keep our nation safe. I serve on the Seapower and Expeditionary Subcommittee which oversees the United States Navy, and the Strategic Forces Subcommittee which oversees our nation's intelligence programs and efforts to secure nuclear material around the globe. It is my belief that supporting our armed forces and getting them the resources they need is critical to protecting our country. It is an honor to serve on HASC and on these important subcommittees.

Transportation and Infrastructure Committee

The Transportation and Infrastructure Committee (T&I) is the House’s largest committee both in terms of membership and jurisdiction, which includes highways, transit, aviation, rail, water infrastructure, pipeline safety and the Coast Guard. Serving on this committee allows me to bring to the attention of Congress the Puget Sound area’s unique transportation challenges. I serve on T&I’s Aviation Subcommittee, which oversees commercial and general aviation, as well as the Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation Subcommittee, which has jurisdiction over the United States Coast Guard and all aspects of maritime transportation, including shipping, ports and recreational boating. Both the aviation and the maritime industry are critical to Northwest Washington, and serving on these subcommittees helps me support these important parts of our local economy. I also work to ensure that the Coast Guard has the resources it needs to support its missions of marine safety, security, and stewardship.

Budget Committee

Our nation faces historic challenges. As a first-time member of the House Budget Committee, I am working with my committee colleagues and the Obama Administration to write the blueprint for our fiscal priorities so we can make the investments we need in our country’s future. To provide for long-term economic growth, I believe that we must invest in modern infrastructure and clean energy to make our country energy independent, expand access to early and higher education to make our workforce competitive, and commit to making affordable healthcare a reality for all Americans. We also must commit to fiscal responsibility, pay-as-you-go spending and deficit reduction for our country’s fiscal health.
