Kirksville Fire Department Receives Funding for New Fire Truck

WASHINGTON (July 13, 2010)—This morning at the Madison County Fiscal Court meeting, Congressman Ben Chandler announced $186,200 for the Kirksville Fire Department.  This money has been used to purchase a new fire truck which will be available to the department in early 2011.

“When everybody is running out of a burning building, these brave men and women are running in,” Congressman Chandler said. “Thank you all for everything you do to keep this county safe. You were the ones that made this fire truck a possibility.  You worked hard for this grant, and I am so proud to be a part of it.”

The federal funding announced today was allocated through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).  Through FEMA, the Vehicle Acquisition program in the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) is funding that is awarded to local fire departments and departments of emergency medical services to pay for training and equipment.
