WASHINGTON (April 12, 2010)—Today, at an event in Wilmore, Congressman Ben Chandler announced the allocation of $12,911 in federal funding to the Wilmore Fire Department. After brief remarks, Congressman Chandler presented a check to Wilmore Mayor Harold Rainwater and Fire Chief Jimmy Powers.
“You all need and deserve this equipment,” Congressman Chandler said. “As firefighters and first responders, you give so much to protect this town, and I want thank you, sincerely, for all you do for Wilmore and Jessamine County.”
The Department was recently awarded a grant by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) will help the local fire department and department of emergency medical services pay for training and equipment.
