Funding will help upgrade communications and data technology
WASHINGTON (April 7, 2010)—Today at a press conference at the courthouse in Paris, Congressman Ben Chandler announced $50,000 in federal funding to Bourbon County to finance new security and communications equipment for local law enforcement. At the conclusion of his remarks, Chandler presented Bourbon County Sheriff Mark Matthews with a check for the new funds.
“We have an important obligation to the men and women who serve as our first line of defense,” Chandler said. “These citizens go to great lengths to make sure our streets remain safe—including putting their own lives on the line. The least we can do is help them secure the most up-to-date equipment.”
The funding will enable the county to purchase mobile data terminals and other equipment necessary for dealing with emergencies, accidents, and crime scenes. This improved communication will increase public safety by bringing about faster emergency response times, more secure communications, and increasing coverage in rural areas.
“During these tough economic times, it is critical our law enforcement agencies have the necessary equipment to protect their team and Bourbon County as a whole from potential harm,” Chandler said.
