Chandler Announces Recipient of Congressional Award

LEXINGTON, KY (September 11, 2006) Congressman Ben Chandler presented Laura Webb, a 16-year-old Lexington student, with the Congressional Award Silver Medal.  The Congressional Award is the highest honor that a youth can receive from the United States Congress.  Webb worked for over two years to receive this very distinguished honor.

Young people from ages 14 to 23 are eligible to earn the Award through achieving individual goals in four areas: voluntary public service, personal development, physical fitness and expeditions.  Laura has over 380 documented Service Hours, over 200 Physical Fitness hours, over 250 hours of Personal Development, and has completed 2 overseas explorations, one in and the other in .

“Laura is a wonderful example of personal achievement; she is an exemplary student and citizen,” said Congressman Ben Chandler.  “The Congressional Awards give young people from all walks of life a chance to learn more about themselves, while helping their communities.  Laura has clearly excelled at both.”

Last year Laura received the Bronze Medal and is already in the process of fulfilling the requirements for the Congressional Award Gold Medal.  Laura hopes to complete the Congressional Award Program next year.  The daughter of Jay and Teresa Webb, Laura is home- schooled.
