Turkish Ambassadors to Visit Lexington

WASHINGTON (May 10, 2006) Congressman Ed Whitfield and Congressman Ben Chandler will be in downtown Lexington at L.V. Harkness on Friday, May 12th at . 

 

 

Turkish Ambassador to the , Mr. Nabi Sensoy, and Turkish Ambassador to the United Nations, Mr. Baki Ilkin, will be in attendance.  The evening’s event will involve a bi-partisan discussion of Turkish-American political and economic relations. 

 

 

            World- renowned Turkish artisans will also be in attendance to showcase their distinct art and culture.  The event is part of a three day “Turkish Bazaar” orchestrated by L.V. Harkness, which will emulate the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul . 

 

 

            Congressman Ed Whitfield is the founder and co-chair of the U.S. House Caucus.  has long been a strategic ally of the , as well as a significant cultural and economic partner.  I am very pleased to have the Turkish Ambassadors to the and United Nations here in the Commonwealth to celebrate this important event,” said Whitfield.

 

 

            Congressman Ben Chandler serves on the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.  Tukey is a member of NATO.  Chandler also serves on the House Committee on International Relations.  “I am pleased to be a part of this wonderful event to celebrate Turkish- American relations,” said Chandler .  “The Turkish Bazaar is not only significant to the city of Lexington , but an important step in improving our relationship with as we continue working to build our alliance.”

 

 

            Mrs. Margaret Jewett, owner of L.V. Harkness & Company and Walnut Hall Farm, will welcome the Congressmen and dignitaries along with Turkish artisans at her downtown location on

West Short Street
before Broadway. 

 

 

            Mayor Teresa Isaac will also be in attendance to present the Ambassadors with keys to the city.  Congressman Whitfield and Congressman Chandler will be presenting Kentucky Colonels to the Ambassadors.
