WASHINGTON (April 11, 2006)
Congressman Ben Chandler will be at Danville High School on Wednesday, April 12th at 11:00 AM to present a certificate of recognition to Jameson Gay for his
appointment to the United States Naval Academy. After Chandler’s congressional nomination, Gay received an appointment.
“The United States Naval Academy
is an outstanding educational institution where the best of this country go to prepare for a career in military service,” said Chandler. “This appointment is a
tremendous opportunity for this young man, and I applaud his efforts and wish him much success.”
It is no easy feat to receive an appointment to a U.S. service academy. Students
must have an excellent academic record, participate in extracurricular activities and be in top physical condition. Gay not only endured a rigorous application process
with the Naval Academy, but participated in Congressman Chandler’s review process, which includes a final interview by a panel made up of former academy graduates
and current or retired officers.
“To me there is no greater honor
than to serve others selflessly,” said Gay. “That is why I have the utmost respect for those who take up arms
for our country and why I want to join that band of brothers.”
Jameson Gay is ranked 8th in
his class with a 3.8 GPA. He is captain of the soccer, basketball and football teams. He is a member of the Student Council and staff writer for the school newspaper.
