WASHINGTON (December 7, 2005) Congressman Ben Chandler secured $150,000 for a Powell County Veterans Park. The money was included as part of the FY06 Transportation-Treasury-Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Act. “The Veterans Park will be a tremendous asset to Powell County,” said Congressman Chandler. “I am pleased the citizens of Powell County will have a space where they can go to reflect upon the contributions made by our veterans.” Congressman Chandler worked very closely with County Judge Executive Bobby Drake to get these funds included in the FY06 Transportation-Treasury-HUD bill. “The funds will be used to construct a new Veterans Park featuring a granite monument honoring our servicemen and women. The Veterans Park will also include a fountain and landscaping to help beautify the grounds, said Drake. “I appreciate the efforts of Congressman Chandler.” President Bush signed the bill into law on November 30, 2005. The money secured will complete construction of the Veterans Park with the help of $25,000 in supplemental funds raised by the citizens of Powell County. ####
