Muskegon County Airport Receives $912,000 Federal Grant
DOT Grant will Fund the Purchase of New Snow Removal Equipment

Washington, Jul 1 - The Muskegon County Airport has received a $912,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to fund the purchase of new runway snow removal equipment.

“Safely moving people and cargo in and out of Muskegon is critical to ensuring the vitality of the Muskegon economy, especially during the current economic recession,” said U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra, R-Holland. “It is encouraging that the Muskegon County Airport is well-ahead of schedule in preparing for the 2010-11 winter.”

The grant will fund the purchase of two 22-foot blade plows and one 12-foot intermediate plow.

“The unusually severe weather that we experienced last year made it abundantly clear that we were in need of new equipment,” Airport Manager Marty Piette said. “The new snowplow equipment will enable us to keep the runways as safe as possible, especially during extended periods of inclement weather.”
