Hoekstra to Participate in Baldwin Street Interchange Ribbon Cutting in Jenison
Hoekstra Supported the Surface Transportation Bill that made the Project Possible

U.S. Capitol

Washington, May 26 - U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra, R-Holland, on Tuesday, June 1, will participate in a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new entrance and exit ramps on I-196 to connect with Baldwin Street in Jenison.

"Sound investment in infrastructure throughout the state is critical to moving goods and services in growing communities," Hoekstra said. "Such projects help to facilitate commerce that will lead to job growth and economic opportunities."

The event is schedule for 10 a.m. at the city of Grandville Wastewater Treatment Plant, 15 Baldwin St., in Jenison.

Hoekstra will join a number of local officials and stakeholders who supported the project since the need for it was identified decades ago.

The $45 million project was the result of the 2006 surface transportation bill, which also funded a number of projects throughout the state, including the widening of I-94 in Kalamazoo and improvements to the Blue Water Bridge in Port Huron. The bill provided for a total return of $1.123 billion in Michigan fuel tax dollars per year.

"The 2006 transportation bill greatly improved Michigan’s infrastructure by returning a record amount of funding back to the state through an increase in the rate of return on road dollars sent to Washington," Hoekstra said. "We need to get Michigan moving again, and the Baldwin Street interchange is a clear example of how to reach that goal."
