Seniors

Congressman Hinojosa is an advocate for the federal programs that America's seniors depend upon. He strongly believes that Social Security and Medicare are promises of health and quality of life for the elderly. That is why he has spent his time in Congress fighting to strengthen and preserve these programs.

Many seniors are worried that current health care reform proposals will impact their Medicare benefits. None of the bills under consideration make any cuts to current Medicare benefits. They do, however, allow the government to negotiate with drug companies to get better prices and to reduce waste and abuse on the provider side that drives up costs. In addition, there have been a lot of rumors that the health care reform proposal will mandate or ration end of life care. This is completely false. The bi-partisan provision would only allow a physician to be reimbursed for his time for any counseling that he might provide a patient who voluntarily requests a consultation.

Congressman Hinojosa believes that America's seniors deserve a guaranteed, comprehensive prescription drug benefit within the Medicare program. That is far from what was passed in the Medicare bill of 2003. Under the current health care reform proposals, Congressman Hinojosa is working to erase the doughnut hole that costs seniors thousands of dollars in out of pocket costs just when they need the benefit the most.

Hinojosa will continue to fight for Medicare and Social Security, ensuring their ability to serve future generations. He is committed to the disabled, disadvantaged, and the retirees that depend on these hugely successful programs.
