Cummings Welcomes Most Jobs Gained In Three Years
Though unemployment remains at 9.7 percent, 162,000 Americans return to work.
(Washington, DC) – Congressman Elijah E. Cummings (MD-07) today released a statement following the largest amount of job growth in three years. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics announced that 162,000 American workers had returned to work, though unemployment remained at 9.7 percent. Though some were attributing the rise to the census, only 48,000 of these workers were temporary.
“This is a landmark day for our nation, for the Obama Administration and for the policies they have pursued,” said Cummings. “We are recovering from the recession, thanks to those policies, and thanks to the perseverance of businesses and workers throughout America. However, millions of our countrymen and women are still out of work, and the wasted potential of just one person is one too many.
“When we return to Washington, my colleagues must help pass the Local Jobs for America Act, to help address the causes of chronic unemployment. Along with the Local Jobs for America Act, I will keep fighting for small businesses, fighting to keep people in their homes and fighting to create good jobs. Our plan is working and we must keep fighting to bring America all the way back.”
