Recovery Handbook

The United States is currently facing the greatest economic crisis since the Great Depression. In an effort to jumpstart our economy, Congress passed and President Obama signed into law the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. For Texas, it couldn’t come at a more critical moment.

Generally speaking, this legislation provides nearly $800 billion in federal spending and tax cuts to create and save jobs as well as provide assistance to Americans who are currently unemployed. Since the size of the Recovery bill is so large, I have created this guidebook, which compiles information on many federal programs and funding opportunities available to individuals, communities and businesses in Texas as a result of the recovery package.

This guide is by no means comprehensive in the coming days I strongly encourage you to visit www.recovery.gov for further information on how to access Recovery funds. It is critical that our families, businesses and municipalities have the information they need to access these funds as quickly as possible.

Furthermore, it is likely most grant, loan and contracting seekers will have to register their organization with the government to apply for funds. I encourage you to visit www.grants.gov and the Central Contractor Registration (CCR) website at www.ccr.gov to learn how to register your organization.

I hope you’ll find this information helpful. If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to call my office at (202) 225-2531. Again, I also encourage you to visit www.recovery.gov for more information. I’m confident that together we can ensure Texas comes out of this crisis stronger and better prepared to meet the challenges that await us.
