Congressman Hinojosa has consistently supported a strong national defense that maintains high military readiness, meets our commitments to a better quality of life for our armed forces and their families, and authorizes investment programs necessary to modernize the equipment that our forces use.

Despite his concerns about the reasons behind the current U.S. action in Iraq, and his support for troop redeployments outside Iraq, Congressman Hinojosa has consistently supported legislation to fund military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan so that our troops have the equipment, supplies, and munitions they need to protect themselves and do their job.

Congressman Hinojosa voted for the FY2010 Defense Appropriations bill that will ensure the National Guard and Reserve have all of the tools they need after years of irresponsible shortfalls. The bill also increases funding for training so that our troops are prepared to successfully perform their missions. It funds a new initiative to pay troops $500 for every month their term of service will be involuntarily and arbitrarily extended in 2009. Military families will also receive expanded family advocacy services, as well as education and daycare programs.

Military personnel and their families make extraordinary sacrifices to defend this country. Since coming to Washington, Congressman Hinojosa has supported pay increases and military construction projects that will improve the quality of life for our service men and women.
