Congressman Marchant Announces Academy Appointments from 24th District

Washington, Jun 18 -

IRVING, TX – Congressman Kenny Marchant (TX-24) announced today that 23 students from the 24th District of Texas have received an appointment to a U.S. Service Academy and six students have been accepted into preparatory school.

“One of the privileges I have serving in the U.S. Congress is the opportunity to annually nominate outstanding young people from our district to be considered for appointment to our nation’s Service Academies,” said Marchant. “These students have met rigorous academic standards and demonstrated exceptional leadership capabilities.”

Each year, Members of Congress nominate graduating high school students within the member’s district for admission to the five U.S. Service Academies.  The evaluation process includes a combination of academic tests, athletics participation, extra-curricular and charity involvement, letters of recommendations, a board interview, and a formal nomination by either a Member of Congress or the Vice-President.

The following students nominated by Marchant received an appointment or were accepted into preparatory school:

According to new figures, the monetary value of each education received at a U.S. Service Academy is valued at approximately $400,000 in return for a commitment to serve in the active-duty military after graduation.

The students will be recognized at a private academy send-off ceremony on Saturday, with appointees and their families as well as graduating Service Academy students in attendance. After this year’s class is inducted, a total of 89 students from the 24th district will be attending a Service Academy.
