Congressman proud to support future national leaders from Baltimore City and Baltimore and Howard Counties.

(Washington, DC) – Congressman Elijah E. Cummings (MD-07) was proud to recently nominate 32 area high school students to attend four of our nation’s service academies.

Eight were recommended to the United States Naval Academy (USNA) at Annapolis, MD; nine were nominated to the United States Military Academy (USMA) at West Point, NY; four will have the chance to attend the United States Air Force Academy (AFA) at Colorado Springs, CO and six will have an opportunity to learn skills vital to the Baltimore area, as they attend the United States Merchant Marine Academy (MMA) in Kings Point, NY. Four students were nominated to two academies.

The Seventh District had 51 applicants for the nominations. The nominees include a set of twins ( Brett and Brandon Stokholm), two younger brothers of past nominees (Daniel Ojard and Arvind Stone), and two Olympic-level athletes (Mario West, a veteran of the Olympic Gymnastic trials and Kelly Stambaugh, who participates in the Maryland Olympic Athlete Development Program in Soccer.)

The nominees also show great diversity in hometowns. 28 hail from Howard County, two live in Baltimore City and two are from Baltimore County.

The nominees are listed below. Parents who wish for their children to join these students in service to the nation can find information on next year’s nomination application cycle at www.house.gov/cummings.
