The Battle Was Lost But the Fight Is Not Over (March 2010) PDF Print

Last night the House of Representatives passed President Obama and Speaker Pelosi’s government takeover of health care. They forced this massive, trillion dollar legislation through without any Republican support and against the will of the American people. Although they have passed this bill, the fight is not yet over. Along with other Congressional Republicans, I will fight to repeal this destructive legislation and start over with solutions that focus first on lowering costs. During the debate yesterday, I spoke out on the House floor in strong opposition to the Democrat’s bill. You can read the text below and see a video of my reaction immediately following the vote here.

“Madam Speaker, the American people have spoken again and again. They do not want to spend nearly $1 trillion on a new government health care program paid for by raising taxes and raiding the Medicare trust fund. They don't want to force everyone to buy government-approved health insurance or subsidize health plans that cover abortion. And they don't want a 2,400-page bill riddled with backroom deals. Madam Speaker, Americans are watching and know what is at stake. Let's reject this destructive legislation.”
