Ingram makes rounds in New York; says he's proud to be Crimson Tide's first Heisman winner
The Associated Press
NEW YORK -- Mark Ingram says he's proud to have filled a void for the Alabama football program by winning the school's first Heisman Trophy.
The sophomore running back appeared Monday on ABC's "Good Morning America."
He said it's surprising no Alabama football player had won the Heisman before he claimed it.
Ingram is making the rounds as the Heisman Trophy winner before getting back to work preparing for the national championship game against Texas. He was also scheduled to attend the annual Heisman Memorial Trophy Dinner in Manhattan.
Alabama Congressmen Artur Davis, D-Birmingham, and Spencer Bachus, R-Birmingham, also announced they will introduce a resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives honoring Ingram on being the university's first player to win the Heisman Trophy.
"Mark Ingram has done what a seventy-five-year line of great Alabama players have never managed to accomplish -- winning the prestigious Heisman Trophy," Davis said in a statement. "Our entire state is proud of his excellence and the humility he continues to demonstrate."
Bachus also hailed Ingram's achievements.
"Mark Ingram's accomplishments on the football field have deservedly been recognized nationally, but what makes him a true winner is his excellent character," Bachus said. "He is an outstanding ambassador for the University of Alabama and stands as an example for all young people of what can be achieved through hard work and determination, overcoming adversity, and putting others first."
