Silver Lake College Receives Funding
to Aid Deafblind Youth
WASHINGTON -- Congressman Tom Petri reports that Silver Lake College has been awarded a $173,484 grant from the U.S. Department of Education to support the college's Projects for Children and Young Adults Who Are Deafblind Program.
"It's expected that Silver Lake will receive identical grants for each of the four years from 2004 through '07," Petri said. "The college's efforts in this area are in the tradition we expect from our institutions of reaching out to make quality educational services available to every individual and every group in society."
Through Silver Lake College's Wisconsin Center for Deafblind
Education, the program will build the capacity of parents,
professionals and agencies to improve the outcomes for the 302
Wisconsin children who are "deafblind" - having both vision and
hearing problems. It will provide their families with technical
assistance, information and training from early intervention
through transition from school.
