Veterans' Affairs
As America’s newest generation of veterans returns from Afghanistan and Iraq, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) faces a significant challenge. The number of veterans in need of health care and support is rising rapidly.

I am working to ensure that the needs of our veterans are met with sufficient resources and support by urging full funding for health care and research. I am also working to end the disabled veterans’ tax, and pushing to eliminate the Survivors Benefit Penalty. And one of my highest priorities is ensuring that all disabled veterans can receive the care they deserve; to that end, I have co-sponsored legislation to make ALS a service-connected disability so that veterans with ALS can receive the appropriate treatment and benefits. I have particularly worked on behalf of Triangle veterans, from establishing a veterans’ health care center in Raleigh to advocating for improvements to facilities at the Durham VA Medical Center.
