Congresswoman Matsui Statement on FEMA/City of Sacramento Agreement re: Natomas Permits
Plan Will Not Raise Flood Insurance Rates for Sacramento Policy Holders
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-05) issued the following statement in regards to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the City of Sacramento’s agreement to bring the Community Development Department’s past actions into compliance with the National Flood Insurance Program – an agreement which will not raise flood insurance rates for Sacramento homeowners:
“I am pleased that after a year of dialogue and discussion between the City and FEMA, both sides have agreed to a plan to bring the Community Development Department’s past actions into compliance with the National Flood Insurance Program.
“Most importantly, this multi-part plan will leave flood insurance rates untouched for the thousands of flood insurance policy holders that live in the City of Sacramento and did nothing wrong.
“Despite the problems within the Community Development Department, it was imperative that the City fix the deficiencies that were identified by their own audit and give assurances to FEMA that there will not be a repeat of any problems. I am hopeful that tonight’s Council action will be bring closure to this issue.”
Congresswoman Matsui has been unwavering in her position that the City’s problems would not result in higher flood insurance rates for Sacramento residents. To read prior statements made by the Congresswoman on this issue, please click here or here.
