Enzi Supports Amendment to Reduce 1099 Form Burdens on Small Businesses

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.), Ranking Member of the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, went to the Senate floor today in support of an amendment to repeal a costly new mandate for small businesses to file more 1099 tax forms.
“Under the new health care reform law, 40 million businesses will have to submit onerous and duplicative 1099 tax forms to the Internal Revenue Service. This August, I toured small businesses across Wyoming to get a sense of what federal legislation is doing to help or hinder them. I saw firsthand what kind of struggles they deal with every day and what is working for them and what is not,” Enzi said.
“The last thing we should do in Washington is hurt small business owners by passing legislation that takes time and money away from growing that business and puts them into filing more paperwork with the IRS. Section 9006 of the new health care law could mean hundreds and hundreds of extra 1099 tax forms every year for businesses to worry about. That is why I am a co-sponsor of this amendment, which will fully repeal the 1099 paperwork mandate.”
